Ulaanbaatar, July 29,
2025 /MONTSAME/. The “Hunnu Air” airline company operated the historic first-ever
“Jeonju-Murun” international flight, reported the Ministry of Road and
Transport of Mongolia.
Within the program of
the Government of Mongolia to liberalize air transport, the Murun Airport in
Khuvsgul aimag has been upgraded and classified as category 4C by the
International Civil Aviation Organization, thus enabling the national airline “Hunnu
Air” to operate the first international flight on the “Jeonju-Murun” route.
The elevation of local
airport classification to 4C and expansion of air transport networks by the Ministry
of Road and Transport have made progress not only in the infrastructure sector,
but also serve as a significant incentive for tourism and regional development.
Specifically, aside
from scheduled local flights, Murun airport is now able to receive charter and
scheduled direct international tourist flights from the Russian Federation, the
People’s Republic of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Southeast Asia.
Experts consider this development in air transport a valuable contribution to
the tourism sector, which decentralizes flights in Ulaanbaatar and enables
direct flights to the local airport. This charter flight offers foreign
tourists a cost- and time-efficient direct trip to Khuvsgul.
The “Hunnu Air” company operated the 4-hour-10-minute flight on an “Embraer-190” airplane with 98 passenger seats.
