Mongolian and International MMA Fighters to Participate in the “Khangarid Cup”
Sports
Ulaanbaatar, June 13, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The “MGL-1 Fighting Championship 22,” organized by the Mongolian
Mixed Martial Arts Federation, will take place under the name “Khangarid Cup”
at the ASA Arena on June 14, 2025.
MMA fighters from Mongolia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the
Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Federal
Republic of Nigeria will participate in the championship. The seven matches
planned under the “Khangarid Cup” will be judged by referees from Mongolia, the
United States of America, the Dominion of Canada, and the Republic of
Singapore. The competition aims at including skilled international athletes
to compete on home soil, thereby strengthening Mongolia’s position in the world
of mixed martial arts.
During the press conference, held on June 13, 2025, Honored Athlete
Narantungalag Jadamba stated, “This will be the largest tournament in the
history of our federation. Athletes from many countries will fight in Mongolia
for the first time. Seven bouts will take place, where Mongolia’s top fighters
Sh. Odsuren and B. Shinebaatar, as well as experienced competitors from Japan,
South Korea, Brazil, Kazakhstan, and Nigeria, will compete for the championship
belt. Sh. Odsuren and B. Shinebaatar, who will fight in the 61-kilogram weight category,
remain undefeated. Sh. Odsuren is the only Mongolian athlete to have won a
championship in Russia’s ‘Ippon Primori’ federation, which is a significant challenge
to overcome. Meanwhile, B. Shinebaatar has fought for the championship belt in
Japan’s ‘Gladiator’ federation. Although he decisively defeated his opponent,
he was unable to make the required weight and therefore did not claim the
title. This event is unique as it will feature two undefeated top fighters
competing for Mongolia’s national championship belt. The winning athlete will
be awarded double the prize money stipulated in the contract. Unlike previous
tournaments judged solely by local referees, this year’s ‘Khangarid Cup’ has
invited the panel of professional referees from One Championship due to the
participation of international fighters. Mongolian referees will collaborate
with these experts, providing an opportunity to enhance their skills and experience.
The federation has also updated the championship belt this year. Since 2011,
foreign fighters have competed under our federation. Bringing international
competitors to Mongolia elevates the quality and skill level of our athletes, providing
crucial psychological support for competing abroad.”
As a side note, many of Mongolia’s top fighters who emerged from these competitions now proudly represent the country on the international stage, competing under the national flag in organizations such as the UFC in the U.S., One Championship across the Asia-Pacific, Japan’s Deep and Gladiator federations, and China’s JCK.
