Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. On March 3, the National Rangers Forum kicked off at the State House.
In his opening remarks, Minister of Environment and Tourism B.Bat-Erdene highlighted how rangers contribute to implementing the package law on environment, the Law on Special Protected Areas, and the Law on the Protection of Cultural Heritage as well as about 20 more laws that involve other sectors.
In order to ensure workplace safety, introduce more opportunities for professional development, create better livelihood conditions, and build the rangers’ capacity, a ‘Ranger Development Program’ is currently being developed. A suggestion has been put forth to jointly implement the program with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Minister noted.
He then highlighted that the Mongolian Ranger Federation is working together to carry out a study to assess the rangers’ current labor conditions and necessities in aims of making improvements to the classification of rangers and their social security.
“While the main duties of rangers are to monitor and carry out studies in their respective areas, raise public awareness, and implement corresponding laws, there have begun to be new duties for the specialists such as serving as a guide for visitors in order to promote environmentally-friendly habits and practices,” said the Minister.
From rangers of 121 special protected areas to officials and experts at environment departments of the country’s 21 aimags and the capital city, and representatives of NGOs in the environmental sector, a total of 1,016 participants are attending the forum.
