Noyon Mountain to be 'Strictly Protected’

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At its plenary session of May 7, the Parliament passed a draft resolution to take some areas of land that preserved their natural beauty and characteristics and have historical, cultural, scientific, and ecological significance into state special protection either as new national protected areas or by expanding national parks.
Specifically, according to the resolution, Onon-Balj National Park will be expanded to cover some parts of Dadal, Batshireet, and Binder soums of Khentii aimag and Devel Aral (Island) National Park Preserve - Khovd and Bukhmurun soums of Uvs aimag as well as Achit Lake located in Nogoonnuur soum of Bayan-Ulgii aimag.
The resolution also takes into state special protection the following areas of land: Khom Steppe in Durvuljin soum of Zavkhan aimag; Gutai Hill-Khumuul River’s source in Batshireet and Binder soums of Khentii aimag; Khan Mountain and Bayankhongor sacred mountain in Galuut soum of Bayankhongor aimag; areas around Blue Lake-Bumbat in Gurvanbulag soum of Bayankhongor aimag and Otgon soum of Zavkhan aimag; and some parts of Myangad soum of Khovd aimag.
The resolution also proposes to expand the nature reserve around Noyon Mountain located in Mandal soum of Selenge aimag and monumental areas around the mountain in Bornuur and Batsumber soums of Tuv aimag and upgrade the category of the areas around the mountain to ‘Strictly Protected’, increasing the total territory of special protected areas by 10,463 ha.
