Mongolia supports UN initiative on proclaiming 2020 as an International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Agricultural development, food safety and nutrition issues were discussed at the Second Committee Meeting of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly dated on October 11. Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations S.Sukhbold addressed the meeting.
While
introducing Mongolian Government’s policy and actions on food and agriculture
sectors, he stressed that climate change is becoming a big challenge in development of agriculture sector in addition to adversely influencing to ecosystem. Citing that reflecting
issue on ecosystem and soil protection in the UN Secretary General’s report was
significant, the Permanent Representative noted the Mongolian Government gives special importance to sustainable rangeland management.
Expressing Mongolia's full support to the UN initiative to proclaim 2020 as an International Year of Rangeland and Pastoralists, which was proposed during the Fourth Session of the UN Environment Assembly, the Permanent Representative called on member states and participant parties to pay attention and collaborate in pastureland protection and sustainable rangeland management.
