Role of livestock sector in achievement of SDGs discussed

/MONTSAME/ A meeting on presentation of the FAO Livestock Report ‘Transforming the livestock
sector through the sustainable development goals’ was held
in Geneva, Switzerland on March 28.
The report
says that the issue of enhancing processing and production in livestock sector has been in discussion over the years and then adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development started requiring increase of the sector’s role in achievement of SDGs
and broader consideration of the sector’s development. The livestock
sector has direct and indirect effects on achievement of all 17 SDGs including the
ones for increasing employment and income, improving provision of animal
products, fostering physical development and education of children, and
empowering rural women. In brief, the report states the necessities of
increasing livestock sector’s role in attainment of SDGs and reforming the
sector.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations L.Purevsuren took part in the meeting, introducing the sector’s contribution to Mongolia’s economy as well as the objectives to be accomplished hereafter.
