Support needed for protection of big lakes from sand movement and reforestation of Gobi region

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On the occasion of the International Day of Forests on March 21, Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat met with Chairman of Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet).
APFNet established relations with Mongolia in 2009 and the sides have collaborated in directions of empowering human resources in forest sector of Mongolia as well as studying change of forest cover in the past.
Expressing his gratitude on cooperating for protecting Mongolian forest, Minister N.Tserenbat put requests to cooperate in lowering risk of forest and steppe fire and setting up tree nurseries as well as practice sharing on restoring degraded forest and reducing sand movement. Particularly, he emphasized support is needed for reforesting desert steppe zone in Dornogobi and Zamyn-Uud and protecting Buir and Ganga Lakes from sand movement.
The Ministry of Environment and Tourism is hosting APFNet
Executive Board Meeting on March 19-21 in Ulaanbaatar, in which 54 delegates
from 26 countries are attending, discussing issues and solutions in forest
sector.
