Pasture deterioration and desertification research underway
EnvironmentUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ A research to identify the pastureland trend in Mongolia is underway with the help of 1516 monitoring points of the state meteorology and hydrology network installed throughout the country.
Previously, a
baseline survey on the state of pastureland was conducted in 2014. Now it
is being carried out to identify how the state of pasture has changed since
then.
Compared with
2014, the size of deteriorated pastureland decreased from 65 percent to 57
percent in 2016, but the areas severely deteriorated and facing desertification enlarged. In particular, pastureland deterioration increased in
entire territories of Selenge, Arkhangai, Khuvsgul, Tuv and Khentii aimags and northern
parts of Bayankhongor and Uvurkhangai aimags. Major part of severely deteriorated pasture areas belong to

being conducted by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry in collaboration with other relevant organizations.
