Discussion on ways to reduce air pollution takes place

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Environment and Green Development Committee of the Citizens' Representative Khural of the capital city and the Air Pollution Reduction Department of Ulaanbaatar city co-organized a discussion under the theme, ‘Joining forces against air pollution’ today on December 26.
Scholars and researchers of Mongolian University of Science and Technology, representatives of Public Health Institute of Mongolia as well as NGOs took part in the discussion. The aims of the discussion are to discuss results of research on reducing air pollution and possible solutions, and determine methods to reduce the negative impacts to the health of the citizens from pollution.
As 80 percent of the air and soil pollution are from ger districts, while 10 percent is from traffic, the participants agreed that the first step should be reducing heat loss in apartments, creating more opportunities for citizens to choose electric thermal heating as well as increasing the amount of production for improved fuel.
Currently, measures are being taken to connect schools and kindergartens to central heating network and creating infrastructure in ger districts by the capital. Following to the order given by Chairman of the Citizens’ Representative Khural S.Amarsaikhan, selected eight khoroos are being provided with improved fuel.
