Census of snow leopards commences
EnvironmentUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ In collaboration with
specialists of National University of Mongolia and the Institute of Biology of
MAS, the World Wildlife Fund Mongolia Program Office
is working to count population of snow leopard in Mongolia.
According to
the latest census carried out in 2000-2002 in Mongolia, it was found that
around 500 to 1000 head of snow leopards inhabit in the country.
Beginning December
4, the WWF Mongolia has commenced the census according to new international
methodology. Within the census, 13 teams are working nationwide.
It will be a large scale research work not only for Mongolia also at international level.
