Second round of presidential election begins

The second round of Mongolia’s presidential election began at 07.00 АM today nationwide. About 1.9 million mongolians are going to vote for the country’s fifth president today.
Three candidates – Mr Enkhbold from the Mongolian People’s Party, Mr Battulga from the Democratic Party and Mr Ganbaatar from the Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party ran for president in the June 26 poll. But the candidates failed to win by a majority of votes, leading to a second round of election for the first time in the history of Mongolia.
After winning the highest number of votes in the June 26 poll, the Mongolian People’s Party candidate Mr Enkhbold and the Democratic Party candidate Mr Battulga run in the second round. Mongolians living abroad cast their votes on July 4-5 whereas votes were collected to portable ballot boxes on July 6.
In case of below 50 percent voter turnout on the national level, there will be repeated polling. The second round of election is financed by MNT 7.4 billion from government reserve fund.
