Ulaanbaatar, November 14, 2025 /MONTSAME/. During the meeting of the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly held on November 11, 2025, the resolution “The Role of Cooperatives in Social Development”, initiated by Mongolia, was adopted.

Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Ankhbayar Nyamdorj underscored that the updated resolution encourages governments to strengthen policy, legal, and financial frameworks for cooperatives, integrate the cooperative model into national development and sectoral policies in areas such as agriculture, housing, health, education, and employment, and provide targeted support to women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

Permanent Representative Ankhbayar also noted that, in connection with the 2025 International Year of Cooperatives, UN member states, the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC), the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), and cooperative organizations worldwide will implement a wide range of activities under the theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World.” Based on the achievements of this global initiative, Mongolia has proposed proclaiming an International Year of Cooperatives every ten years.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 90 UN member states joined as co-sponsors of Mongolia’s resolution “The Role of Cooperatives in Social Development.”
