Mongolia, Australia Hold Talks on Social Security Agreement

Ulaanbaatar, November 12, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Government of Mongolia and the Commonwealth of Australia are holding bilateral negotiations in Ulaanbaatar from November 10 to 13, 2025, to establish a Social Security Agreement between the two countries.


Opening the negotiations, Minister of Family, Labor, and Social Protection of Mongolia, Aubakir Tilyeukhan, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Commonwealth of Australia to Mongolia, Leo Zeng, underlined that the signing of the Social Security Agreement will play a vital role in ensuring social protection guarantees for citizens residing and working in both countries.


The ongoing bilateral dialogue is being jointly led by Rentsenkhan Vandan, Director of the Social Insurance and Provident Fund Policy Department at the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Protection, and Kate Yuil, Director of the Immigration and International Payments Branch at the Department of Social Services of the Government of  Australia.


Mongolia continues to actively pursue bilateral social security agreements with countries hosting significant populations of Mongolian nationals, aiming to safeguard their rights, particularly those living in remote or underserved areas. To date, Mongolia has signed and implemented such agreements with the Russian Federation, the Republic of Korea, Hungary, the Republic of Poland, Belarus, the Czech Republic, and the Republic of Kazakhstan.


According to recent reports, over 22,000 Mongolian nationals currently reside in Australia.
