Ulaanbaatar, February 10, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Health Chinburen Jigjidsuren is currently working in the eastern aimags. At a meeting with officials and medical professionals from the Governor’s Office, the Health Department, the General Hospital, and private healthcare institutions of Sukhbaatar aimag on February 6, 2026, Minister Chinburen emphasized that unprecedented large-scale investments will be made in provincial and local healthcare with financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
During
the meeting, the Minister provided a detailed briefing on major investments,
projects and programs, as well as policy decisions to be implemented at the
provincial and local levels, and held an open discussion with healthcare
professionals.
The
Sukhbaatar aimag General Hospital currently employs 310 doctors and staff and
provides referral-level and certain specialized medical services. In December
2025, cataract surgery was introduced at the provincial level, and to date, 11
patients have successfully undergone cataract replacement surgery, with their
eyesight fully restored. In addition, teams of doctors have received training
at the National Cancer Center in preparation for introducing liver and
gallbladder cancer surgery within the first quarter of this year.
In
2026, the hospital plans to expand its emergency care, intensive care, and
surgical services, and to begin providing chemotherapy treatment for cancer
patients. In this context, the Director of the General Hospital, Ariunaa G.,
highlighted the urgent need to insulate the building’s exterior façade and
construct an extension to the hospital.
Minister
Chinburen noted that the annual budget of the aimag’s health sector stands at
MNT 37 billion, and that investments of a similar scale will be made over a
two-year period. As part of the ADB-financed initiative, funding for the
expansion of the Sukhbaatar aimag General Hospital will be secured. The new
extension will be fully equipped to provide specialized cardiology, intensive
care, and surgical services, while also strengthening human resource capacity.
As a result, critically ill and life-threatening patients will be able to
receive timely and high-quality medical care locally.
Furthermore, within the framework of the national policy to enhance border crossing capacity, investment for the construction of a new health center in Erdenetsagaan soum of Sukhbaatar aimag will also be secured under this project, the Ministry of Health reported.
