Measures Underway to Reduce Slippery Road Risks

Ulaanbaatar, January 9, 2026 /MONTSAME/. In response to recent snowfall in the capital, measures are being implemented to reduce the risk of icy and slippery road conditions, with more than 600 workers and officials currently engaged in mitigation efforts.


According to the Capital City Governor’s Office, in Sukhbaatar district, road and public area cleaning is being carried out by 145 workers from four organizations. The operation involves four special chemical-spraying vehicles, four road sweepers and snowplows, two loaders, bobcat equipment, and other machinery. The district currently maintains reserves of 624 tonnes of salt and 654.7 tonnes of de-icing chemicals.


In Khan-Uul District, 280 workers from 14 organizations are conducting cleaning and maintenance operations using 41 vehicles and 75 small-scale machines, including snowplows and salt and chemical spreaders. To prevent icy road conditions, 20 tonnes of salt and 70.5 tonnes of chemicals have already been applied. De-icing operations continue on Moringiin Pass, Aitsyn Pass, and bridges. The district currently holds remaining stocks of 1,259 tonиуs of salt and 717.5 tonnes of chemicals.


In Songinokhairkhan district, preventive measures include the application of 61 tons of salt, 49 tonnes of chemicals, and 20 tonnes of gravel. Traffic on Arguntiin Pass and Baruun Turuun Pass remains normal. Snowdrifts have been observed in the summer house areas of Nairamdal, Baruun Salaa, and Zuun Salaa, while roads in the central areas and the ger districts of Bayankhoshuu and Tolgoit have been treated with de-icing materials, ensuring normal traffic flow.


Meanwhile, in Bayangol district, 178 workers from eight organizations are cleaning 62 streets and 846,420 square meters of public roads and spaces using 18 vehicles and 50 small-scale machines. To prevent slippery conditions, 9.5 tonnes of salt and 32.5 tonnes of chemicals have been applied. The district retains 313.5 tonnes of remaining chemicals and 532.5 tonnes of salt.
