Ulaanbaatar, January 9, 2026 /MONTSAME/. High-crime “hotspots” in ger districts – areas where crime and offenses are most frequently recorded – will be equipped with surveillance cameras this year, with the necessary funding already included in the capital city budget.

In this regard, meetings were held with the chairpersons of the Citizens’ Representative Khurals of the capital’s nine districts to exchange views and develop work plans for next year. Chairman of the Ulaanbaatar City Citizens’ Representative Khural and Head of the Capital City Sub-Council for Crime Prevention Bayar Amarbayasgalan stated, “Reducing crime across the capital requires close cooperation among all nine districts. In 2026, we aim to reduce traffic accidents by 15–50 percent and decrease theft, assault, and other crimes against public health by 15 percent. High-crime ‘hotspots’ will be clearly identified and equipped with surveillance cameras. All nine districts will work closely with the city to significantly reduce crime.”

The costs of installing surveillance cameras in ger district hotspots will also be covered by the District Sub-Councils for Crime Prevention. Officials emphasized that the measures are expected not only to reduce crime, but also to enhance public safety and restore a sense of security.
