Ulaanbaatar, January 8, 2026 /MONTSAME/. During its regular session on January 7, 2026, the Cabinet of Mongolia approved regulations establishing a star rating system for tourism service providers to improve service quality and accessibility in the tourism sector.
The Government has declared 2023-2028 as the “Years to Visit Mongolia” and has been implementing dedicated policies in phases. With the approval of the regulations, implementation of the Law on Tourism will be ensured, the classification and rating of accommodation facilities providing hospitality services will be clearly defined, and service quality and accessibility will be improved in line with international standards. The introduction of official ratings will also create conditions for tourism entities to qualify for state incentives, benefits, and support, while contributing to the attraction of foreign investment.
In drafting the regulations, six rounds of
consultations were held with tourism sector business operators, and their
proposals and recommendations were incorporated. The draft was also published
on the official website of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism, and Youth,
and public feedback was collected. Previously, classification and ratings were
assigned only to high-end hotels and tourist camps. Under the revised
regulations, tourism complexes, hotels, and tourist camps can now all be
classified and rated.
