Ulaanbaatar, January 7, 2026 /MONTSAME/. This year, the Capital city will include 189,600 pupils in Grades 1-5 in the “Milk Program.”

The Governor’s Office of the Capital City of Ulaanbaatar has been providing milk regularly, two to three days a week since 2024, to 19,000 pupils at selected schools in Ulaanbaatar. To expand the program, MNT 8.9 billion has been allocated in Ulaanbaatar’s 2026 budget, enabling milk to be provided once a week to 189,000 pupils in Grades 1–5 attending public schools.

According to the Governor’s Office of the Capital City of Ulaanbaatar, surveys conducted among pupils and parents at schools that have received milk regularly since 2024 show that consumption of milk rich in vitamin D and calcium has improved dental health and immunity and reduced bone fragility among children. Accordingly, this year, the cost of milk for one day will be covered by the Governor’s Office of the Capital City of Ulaanbaatar, one day by districts and local authorities, and one day by parents, allowing pupils to receive milk three days a week, which is expected to have a positive impact on physical growth, health, and academic performance. International experience shows that in countries such as the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan, where children are regularly provided with milk, average height among children has increased. To support child growth and development and strengthen physical immunity, the “Milk Immunity” targeted program has been implemented since 2024.

Nationwide, 378,408 pupils are enrolled in Grades I-V at general education schools, of whom 189,000 study in schools in the Capital City. In other words, half of all primary school pupils nationwide are enrolled in Ulaanbaatar.
