Elite Judoka Mashu Baker Arrives in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, January 6, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Japanese elite judoka Mashu Baker, gold medalist in the men’s 90 kg category at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, has arrived in Mongolia.
Baker, who rose to prominence at the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, is visiting Mongolia at the invitation of the traditional Mongol wrestling State Grand Champion, Batsuuri Namsraijav. In cooperation with the Mongolian Judo Association, he will conduct a week-long training program for junior judokas in Uvs aimag.
During the training, the Olympic champion will share his valuable experience, techniques, and competitive insights gained on the Olympic and world stages, contributing to the development of future top-level athletes. The program is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the skills of local children and youth judokas, aligning their training with international standards.
Mashu Baker departed for Uvs aimag on January 5 and will train local judokas for one week. He will then return to Ulaanbaatar to attend the opening ceremony of an open junior judo tournament at the “Aldar” Sports Committee before departing Mongolia on January 15, 2026.
31 years old, Mashu Baker won gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and secured bronze medals at the 2015 World Judo Championships and the 2018 Asian Games.
He has also claimed six gold, one silver, and three bronze medals at Masters, Grand Slam, and Grand Prix tournaments.
