On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a forum themed ‘Strengthening partnership between government and non-governmental organizations for ensuring rights of persons with disabilities’ was organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection at the State House.

There are 103.6 thousand disabled people in Mongolia which means 3 percent of the total population. 550 delegates attended the forum which aims to provide equal state services to these people and create conditions for ensuring their rights to work and develop.

Beginning the forum, Minister S.Chinzorig presented state policies and actions on protecting rights of persons with disabilities and backing their development.

Stating that more than 12 thousand people were involved in ‘Program for support of employment of persons with disabilities’ in 2017-2018, spending MNT 8.6 billion, the Minister said the government considers that collaboration with NGOs for interests of disabled people is more effective. As of today, 19.3 thousand NGOs run operation in Mongolia, of which nearly 600 target their activities to persons with disabilities.

The Minister also cited that NGOs should improve their capacities and organization as well as be specialized in one direction to perform some duties of the government. On the other hand, it is significant that persons with disabilities should actively participate in activities run by the NGOs.

Participants of the forum emphasized the necessity to focus attention on resolving issues regarding social equality and access.
