New wastewater treatment plant to produce biogas

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The wastewater treatment plant to serve over 160 households and entities at Yarmag and airport area commissioned on November 6.


The water supply and sewerage facility built in the 10th khoroo of the Khan-Uul district is capable of cleaning up to 20,000 cubic meters of water per day, and has an advanced technology to process sludge. The filtered water will be used for technical use and the sewage sludge will be processed to produce biogas, which could be used for thermal needs of the plant, and the dehydrated sludge is to be used in soil fertilization and cultivation. The experts highlighted that the sewage sludge is fully processed and safe to use.




The plant was built by the Turkish company ‘HNC’ with the state budget investment of MNT 33 billion. Minister of Construction and Urban Development Kh.Badelkhan pointed out that the health of residents and water quality will be improved with the commissioning of the plant.


The old wastewater treatment plant has been receiving 2500-2800 cubic meters of wastewater daily, which exceeded the capacity of the facility. Now, the new wastewater treatment plant is receiving the sewage from the existing old plant
