Mongolian delegates attending meeting in Geneva

Delegates led by L.Purevsuren, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of
Mongolia to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva,
are attending the First Meeting of the Parties (MOP1) to the Protocol to Eliminate
Illicit Trade of Tobacco Products, being held in Geneva on October 8-10.
Prior to
official opening, a closed meeting had been held to appoint members of Governing
Committee of the MOP1, heads and deputy heads of A and B committees. Mongolia has been appointed as deputy head of the B Committee and coordinator of Asia-Pacific
regional group. The Committee B considers reports, assistance of protocol
implementation, international cooperation, administration and budgetary issues.
During the meeting, the parties will review a Progress Report by the Secretariat which conducted activities for joining countries to the protocol and others. Moreover, the parties will discuss good experiences to ensure protocol implementation and eliminate illicit trade of tobacco products and exchange views on overcoming pressing issues in the countries.
The Protocol came into force on September 28, 2018. To date, the Protocol counts 48 parties. Mongolia
officially joined the Protocol on October 8, 2014, becoming the first country
from the Asia-Pacific to ratify the protocol.
