General Debate of the Second Committee of 73rd Session of UNGA begins
SocietyUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ The Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) of the General Assembly at its 73rd Session began its general debate on October 8.
It discusses
issues relating to economic growth and
development such as macroeconomic policy questions; financing for development;
sustainable development; human settlements; globalization and interdependence;
eradication of poverty; operational activities for development; agriculture
development, food security and nutrition; information and communications
technologies for development; and towards global partnerships.
In the first day’s plenary,
S.Sukhbold, Mongolia’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations,
presented about policy and actions being taken by Mongolian government within
the frames to implement ‘Sustainable development 2030’. Specifically, he
highlighted that Mongolia aims to join regional economic integration and
initiatives and strengthen cooperation with neighbors and other countries.
The Ambassador emphasized
that Mongolia is working actively to protect the common interest of landlocked
developing countries and contributing to South-South cooperation.
Having informed that International
Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries has officially commenced operations
with a status of intergovernmental organization in Ulaanbaatar, the Ambassador
appealed member countries to co-author the draft resolution to make the Think Tank have
observer status at UNGA.
