World Masters Powerlifting Championships continuing in Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Powerlifting athletes from 23 countries are partaking in the 36th IPF World Masters Powerlifting Championships, which is taking place in Ulaanbaatar on October 3-6.  


In the men’s over 70 years old category, veteran teacher of the Mongolian National University of Education J.Baasandamba won four gold medals, lifting a total of 300kg. S.Baasandamba, the 75-year old athlete, is preparing to participate in the forthcoming Asian Championships, which will be held in Ulaanbaatar in December. 


The 36th World Masters Powerlifting Championships will be concluded on October 6 and to be broadcast on MNC TV. Since the beginning of 2018, Mongolian powerlifting team and athletes have won more than 20 medals from Asian and the World Championships. Mongolian athlete B.Chimedtseren became the world champion setting a new world record. Whereas, E.Sodnompiljee snatched two gold medals in bench press category from the World Championships, took place in Finland .


The Mongolian United Powerlifting Federation has been operating in 13 aimags. In the past three years, the MUPF opened its branch  in three aimags. There are about 6000 people who are currently taking up powerlifting in the capital city and the number of youth athletes has been increasing from year to year.
