Mayors of Ulaanbaatar and Tokyo to meet

On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan, Mr S.Batbold, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar city is paying an official visit to Tokyo, Japan on April 17-21.
On April 18, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold got acquainted with the activities of Morigasaki Water Reclamation Center, City Maintenance and Waste Management Center and Environmental Research Institute in Tokyo.
The Morigasaki Water Reclamation Center with a capacity to treat 1,5 million cube meters of water a day and is the largest water reclamation center in Japan. This facility cleans 25 percent of wastewater of Tokyo city.
The City Maintenance and Waste Management Center under the Governor’s Office of Tokyo treat and dispose of waste from 21 districts of Tokyo city.
The Environmental Research Institute conducts surveys to reduce air pollution and delivers reports to government authorities. 
On the sidelines of his official visit to Japan, Ulaanbaatar Mayor S.Batbold gave an interview to Japanese news agency Kyodo News, and discussed the current relationship of the two countries’ capital cities and future directions.
Mongolian national news agency MONTSAME signed a cooperation agreement with Kyodo News in 1983 and the interview was conducted in scope of the two agencies’ cooperation.
During his visit, Mr Batbold met with Governor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike on Wednesday.
 
Mayor of Ulaanbaatar expressed his delight at meeting with his counterpart while Mongolia and Japan mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year. “Strengthening the friendly relations with Japan is a priority for Mongolia” said Mr S.Batbold, noting the important role of people-to-people relations in bilateral relationship.
 
He also spoke about his intentions to work together with the Governor on bringing Ulaanbaatar and Tokyo closer than ever and upgrading the current levels of cooperation.

Mr S.Batbold then invited Governor Yuriko Koike to visit Ulaanbaatar at her convenience, who previously visited Mongolia while working as Environment Minister.
 
For her part, Governor Koike said “Ulaanbaatar is a developing city, therefore, it has issues just like other major cities around the world. We would like to cooperate with Ulaanbaatar”.
